When I decided to buy a camper I didn’t know anything! I was living in central Maine, which didn’t have tons of RVs for sale, and I had a budget of $14,000 to get on the road.
Craigslist was my primary source for availability. I looked at the dealers but they were all pretty expensive. I saw this one listed and went to see it, the money burning a hole in my pocket. I didn’t even know what to look for and hadn’t done much research. The owners were friendly but not terribly forthcoming, just like I would be if I was selling it.
It had the layout I wanted – no kitchen table and benches. It was clean and smelled nice. It started and sounded okay and only had 43,000 miles. I offered $10,000 and drove it away!

WOW! Did I have a lot to learn. I replaced the tires right away – the dealer was amazed that I even got it to them. I had the furnace fixed. I bought dishes and moved my pots and clothes and everything in and presto – the money was all gone.
I’ve made many changes to it and messed up lots and lots. Descriptions of these to follow.
