Kate and I went to Slab City to see what was going on. Slab city is in Eastern California about even with LA. It was an old military base that was dismantled leaving only the concrete slabs. About 600 people have decided to make this home, in any sort of abode they can manage.
The gate house
It is such an interesting group of people and living situations. We were there the same day that the VA was there, allowing people to get checked and such. The VA also had a bbq and brought clothing for folks. At the eastern end of the slabs is an art colony called East Jesus. There we met Scott who was greeting people and showing them around. Large artworks and very cool homes.
