Dental Work in Mexico

Really sexy title isn’t it…

My teeth have been hurting and being problematic for several months – or years – depending on your view. Kate finally convinced me that since we were so close to the border we should go to “Molar City” and get things taken care of. Smart woman!!

I did my research and picked Dental Solutions in Los Algodones. This is a town just south of Yuma and has over 350 dentists in their small community. The prices for all work is amazing. I made an appointment for a week in the future and then we were off.

We have been there once before – when I went to get eyeglasses. I was able to get two pair of single vision prescription lenses with very nice frames for $210. It would have been closer to a thousand in the United States.

Such an interesting place. Think tourist town meets poor community meets medical center. The sidewalks are full of small booths with people selling everything from hats to belts to bowls to jewelry. There are also a multitude of people trying to steer you to a particular pharmacy or dental office or vision store. It is like a huge bazaar.

I took my phone out to find the location of my dentist and was instantly surrounded by people asking if I needed directions. We found a quiet place to check the directions.

I was taken in promptly which is in such a contrast to what I am used to. I had a panoramic x ray for $100. It showed that I needed two root canals, 3 crowns and maybe more, depending on the teeth as they were checked. We both gulped and said yes. It turns out one of the teeth couldn’t be saved. I have an infection so they have done some of the prep work and given me pain meds and antibiotics and another appointment in a week.

Total so far:

Two root canals 610.00

X ray 100.00

720.00

I am pretty happy so far. Stay tuned for the rest.

We also wandered around since we were early. Here are a couple of border photos/
