Deming New Mexico

We left Albuquerque and headed south to Deming. It has been on my list for several years. The family story was that My great grandfather Edwin Brown was head of the Red Cross in Deming and was basically in charge of everything. I have always wanted to stop and find out about him and his time here.

Weeeelllll, family stories are not always completely accurate. He WAS in Deming and he was a trainer, but there really isn’t anything else about him here and he definitely was not the boss. Interesting how the reality is always a little different.

Anyway we had a great time.

We stayed at the Rockhound State Park which was very nice. It had a brand new shower building so we took advantage of that as often as possible. The sites were really nice and it was very quiet and clean. Nice to have a water hookup and electricity.

We searched for gems – unsuccessfully. We went over to another state park a few miles away and went sightseeing. We were only going to do a stopover of a couple of days but it was so nice that we stayed four.

The hill going to the other park

Saw this fellow crossing the driveway on our way back from the shower.
