Quiet South Dakota Summer

It’s almost October and almost time to leave South Dakota for the southwest. We are heading out sometime the last week of September.

We spent several weeks this summer at Kate’s daughter’s farm in Hermosa. Carianna and Neil have a great little piece of land, I think somewhere around 40 acres. They have some cattle, some chickens, some cats, they raise German Shepards and ten horses. Oh – and two awesome daughters!!! It is a lively and fun place to hang out and we did just that for several weeks.

I took some photos of her stud horse, Romero. He was busy this summer staying true to his namesake – with a few lovely mares visiting him.

Kate’s youngest, Jacob, got married this summer to a delightful woman named Shelby. The wedding was held in the forest with fifty or so guests and some terrific brisket.

We spent many weeks on a farm just north of Speerfish. We felt very lucky to have hookups and deer and rabbits. Both girls loved going for walks and smelly all the farm smells. I think they will miss this even though such great adventures await them.

We off to see some national parks in Utah!
